Leak Street Education and Cultural Center

The Leak Street Education and Cultural Center was officially dedicated in 1995.  Since then, the Center has established partnership with community groups to implement educational programs.

Support Our Students Program (SOS)

The Center currently provides the Support Our Student After School Program (SOS). The SOS program was developed to specifically target juveniles at-risk through exposure to such factors as family conflicts and disruption, community drug and alcohol uses, academic failures, early and persistent behavioral problems in school, and the presence of gangs. The SOS programs work to prevent students from becoming delinquent, from dropping out of school, and by increasing their academic performance. The SOS program aims to meet the physical intellectual, emotional, and social needs of students participating in the program and to improve their attitudes and behavior.

Project Focus

Project Focus is another program that is administered at the Center.  This program accepts referrals from Juvenile Court, law enforcement, schools, parents and any other agency within the Richmond County community.  Project Focus is an after school program that assist with homework, offer peer mentoring, group counseling and teach computer skills and assist in helping to direct student in the right direction.

Restitution and Community Service Program

The Restitution and Community Service Program are for youth ages 6 to 17 years of age.  This is a community service program instituted by the courts.  The services that these students perform are provided through the Parks and Recreation Centers, Habitat for Humanity, Retirement Centers and the Leak Street Community Center.

Summer Camp

The Summer Camp program is for latch key students to have a structured environment to be in during the summer months to keep them focused on academics.  This program provides academics and field trips during the summer months.
